Precautions after Root Canal Treatment

Root Canal treatment is the procedure involving the infected tissue that is pulp from the root canal and filling it with the filling materials thus saving your teeth .Caring of root canal treatment is of utmost importance to save the teeth and prolonging the life of the teeth. Here are some tips to take care of your teeth after the treatment.

  1. Immediately after the procedure it is important to take the prescribed medication given by your dentist. Depending on the severity of the discomfort and swelling, drugs such as pain relievers and antibiotics are usually prescribed. Taking medications on schedule will assist to alleviate the pain.
  2. Avoid chewing hard foods for few days from the treated tooth as it can cause excessive pressure which can cause pain thus delaying the healing. Eating soft foods is preferred. Sometimes eating hard food before capping can also cause  fracture of the teeth.
  3. Keeping the tooth clean by brushing twice is important to maintain the oral hygiene . You can also add warm saline rinses to relieve the pain and infection.

  5. If your dentist has suggested to cap or Crown the teeth once the healing occurred and no pain is there then getting the capping of the teeth done to protect the underlying structure for long term maintenance of the teeth. Failing to cap the teeth can result in the fracture of the tooth or the restoration.
  6. Maintain your oral hygiene by brushing twice daily,using water flosser,avoiding sugay foods in excess  are required for the long term maintenance of the oral tissues and teeth.
  7. Regular dental checkups  once in every 6 months is always recommended  for the optimal dental health.

Root canal treatment is a safe and effective treatment to save the tooth that has been damaged.
